Winter 2015 Interview – Andy Hayes (Plum Deluxe)

Andy Hayes - Plum Deluxe

Q1. What is your Name?

Andy Hayes

Q2. What is the name of your blog or organisation?

Plum Deluxe

Q3. Where are you located in the world?

Portland, Oregon

Q4. Do you have a favourite Valentine’s Day drink?

Something sparkling is always perfect! I love a Kir Royale (sparkling wine + creme de cassis), but with heavy food, I like to enjoy some Vinho Verde, which is a Portugese sparkling wine that is light and gently effervescent. Washington State also has some great artisanal sparkling wines great for romance.

Q5. What is your favourite drink during the Winter?

Without question, hot tea! Generally, I go for an herbal tea, or white tea which has great flavor but not quite as much caffeine. Always organic, always loose leaf. Some of my favorite winter flavors are spicy chai teas, lemon ginger tea, or throw some steamed milk in a cardamom cream tea.

Q6. What is the perfect Winter weekend setting to enjoy the drink?

Tucked under a nice blanket in my reading nook catching up on my backlog of books, or penning some notes into my journal. It sounds slightly cliched, but cozying up on dark, dreary winter ways is how I like to spend those days! If it is truly chilly, I won’t be far from our old wood fireplace.

Q7. What is usually your last drink of the day?

Typically a dry red wine – especially if I had to work late or have been entertaining guests. But if I’m trying to be good, I go for a chamomile tea. My chamomile includes a splash of vanilla extract and spearmint to satiate my sweet tooth. It’s just so relaxing, I sleep great, and wake up the next day feeling quite hydrated and refreshed.

Q8. If you could go back in time, which famous person would like to have a drink with?

Leonardo de Vinci. He was so multi-talented and creative, so I’d love to ask him for advice on a few things. What was it like to live in an era when artists were so lauded? Maybe we could meet in a nice cafe and he could doodle on a notepad while we chat. This is, of course, I learn Italian by then, or else I’ll need a translator…

Q9. Where can people find out more about you?

You’ll find me blogging about tea, drinks, and life over at
