Summer 2014 Interview – Stephen Shelton (JAS-eTea)

Q1. What is your Name?

Stephen Shelton

Q2. Do you represent a business? If yes, what is the name and your role.

Q3. Where are you located in the world?

North Carolina, USA

Q4. What is your favourite Summer drink and why?

I am very big on pu-erh tea. It stimulates and refreshes, and I can steep it time and again. Summer or Winter, it is my favorite.

Q5. What is the perfect Summer’s day setting to enjoy the drink?
Summer is great for a pu-erh steep session (I can get many infusions from the same leaves) since I can set up outdoors. The addition of blue skies, green foliage, and birds and bees helps me feel closer to the tea gardens where these pu-erhs come from.

Q6. Is there a right or wrong way to prepare the drink? i.e. Never drink without ice?

A gaiwan is best (no offense to any of you little teapots out there) and very simple to use. Best of all, it is perfect for many infusions and the shape is very organic, fitting into that nature scene perfectly.

Q7. Is the presentation of the drink important? i.e. ceremony, type of glass, setting.

From gaiwan to sipping cup, the presentation of these teas is part of the enjoyment. I have several gaiwans in different designs and choose the one that suits my mood. A favorite spot to prepare and enjoy my tea outdoors is one full of natural beauty right in our backyard.

Q8. Is there a Summer’s day drink that you feel is underrated? If so, why?

Hot tea gets a bad rap for Summer. Yet, it can be enjoyed any time. Many folks, me included, report a cooling effect from it.

Q9. Where can people find out more about you? i.e. shop address, Twitter username, website url
