Summer 2014 Interview – Madison Hatter (Mad Hatter Tea Company)

Mad Hatter Tea Company

Q1. What is your Name?

Madison Hatter

Q2. Do you represent a business? If yes, what is the name and your role.

Mad Hatter Tea Company

Q3. Where are you located in the world?

Yorkshire, England

Q4. What is your favourite Summer drink and why?

I love a refreshing cup of black Mad Hatter Tea, no milk, no sugar…

Q5. What is the perfect Summer’s day setting to enjoy the drink?

Best setting is in the garden sat on a garden chair with a parasol shading me from the sun, listening to birds playing children tweeting and stakes sizzling on the grill.

Q6. Is there a right or wrong way to prepare the drink? i.e. Never drink without ice?

  1. Fill kettle with freshly drawn water to desired level
  2. Pop 1 Mad Hatter teabag into cup
  3. Once the kettle has boiled pour water into cup
  4. Allow the tea to brew for 2 minutes
  5. Squish bag for added flavour, then remove bag from cup
  6. Milk, lemon or sugar can be added if desired

How to make a good cup of tea is a question I’ve been asked many times, I’m thinking of making a video, but the irony is although I can make a pretty decent cup of tea, I’ve no idea of ‘how to make a video’. Until the video is available I have added the short written version of ‘How to Make a Cup of Tea’ above. I hope this ‘How to’ is of help to anyone who has struggled, and know that if you take the first step, after a very short while you will become brilliant at it… GOOD LUCK!

Q7. Is the presentation of the drink important? i.e. ceremony, type of glass, setting.

I believe making tea is in fact a ceremony, although I’d think of it more as a meditation. The simple process of making tea becomes a sequence of events that once learnt is done on a level within the brain without thinking, that’s Meditation. Once tea is made to ones liking then as a reward, one gets to drink the fruits of their labour… Now if one is drinking an enjoyable cup of tea, how perfect is that?

Q8. Is there a Summer’s day drink that you feel is underrated? If so, why?

There is a (none alcohol) ‘fruit punch’ which is really exceptionally nice, it has a ‘tea base’. I have discovered that as long as I don’t tell anyone that my ‘fruit punch’ has a ‘tea base’ they love it, if I tell them what goes into it, they hate it…

Q9. Where can people find out more about you? i.e. shop address, Twitter username, website url
