Q1. What is your Name?
Q2. Do you represent a business? If yes, what is the name and your role.
I am a jazz singer
Q3. Where are you located in the world?
San Francisco, California
Q4. What is your favourite Summer drink and why?
A cup of jasmine tea – a friend of mine thinks it is such a rare and special treat that she calls it ‘Unicorn Tears’
Q5. What is the perfect Summer’s day setting to enjoy the drink?
Mmmmmmmm, what a great question – yes – in the garden with plants around, bees humming, birds chirping. In San Francisco, it is usually cool and foggy in summer. My apartment fire escape has a bird feeder where the parrots of Telegraph Hill come to eat sunflower seed. I usually have my morning cup of tea with them.
Q6. Is there a right or wrong way to prepare the drink? i.e. Never drink without ice?
Oh, this is a very crucial aspect for jasmine tea – if brewed longer than 3 minutes it is too bitter for my taste. 2-3 minutes is heavenly.
Q7. Is the presentation of the drink important? i.e. ceremony, type of glass, setting.
Wine tastes better in a lovely glass – with tea there is pleasure in the touch of a beautiful or well loved and familiar cup. Currently in my apartment all the cups and saucers are mismatched blue and white patterns – each is different, and all go with a blue willow teapot. Pouring the tea, watching the steam swirl, smelling the jasmine – aaaahhhhhhhhh.
Q8. Is there a Summer’s day drink that you feel is underrated? If so, why?
Lemon verbena sun tea, served cold in a crystal glass.
Definitely underrated in San Francisco (1) because it is chilly in the summer (2) because it is a caffeine on-the-go town not disposed to a calming moment…
Q9. Where can people find out more about you? i.e. shop address, Twitter username, website url
Get a cup of your favorite drink and have a listen to some tunes here:
I sing classic jazz tunes from the 20s – 40s, with a voice where silk meets smoke. Jazz is my mood altering drug of choice.
