Spring 2015 Interview – Marika de Vienne (Épices de Cru Teas)

Épices de Cru Teas - Spice Trekkers

Q1. What is your name?

Marika de Vienne

Q2. What is the name of your blog or organisation?

Épices de Cru Teas

Q3. Where are you located in the world?

Montréal

Q4. What currently is your favourite drink and why?

Friggin’ sweetened black iced tea. Who would have ever believed I’d be in to that. Lately we’ve been having fun with putting syrups in our cold brews. Normally I’m against this sort of thing, but with so many fruits and berries ripening this season, it’s actually really nice to make a rhubarb or raspberry syrup for sweetened iced tea. There, I said it.

Q5. Do you change your drinking habits during Spring?

Yes. After about April in Canada I can drink my tea without having to defrost it first.

Q6. Is there a coffee or tea you think others should try?

We recently got a nice Japanese Oolong from our supplier in Kyoto and have been really surprised by the quality. Japan has long been known as an oolong drinking but not an oolong producing country. Turns out they have a knack for it!

Q7. If cost wasn’t a factor, where would you like to be right now enjoying a drink?

Mars. Or maybe a full-size Starship Enterprise replica I made with all the money I don’t care about. But seriously, has anyone done zero-G experiments on tea drinking?

Q8. What do you think should be done to stop people from drinking too much alcohol?

Good and difficult question! I think getting people to “stop” drinking too much won’t work, it’s the wrong attitude. Encouraging people to drink for enjoyment and conviviality, showing more popular representations of people having fun with just a few drinks, basically taking more of a positive attitude towards drinking responsibly instead of the alternative.

Q9. Where can people find out more about you?

We’re always talking tea and spice at www.spicetrekkers.com!
