Spring 2015 Interview – Kelly Allard (Engaged Family Gaming)

Kelly Allard

Q1. What is your name?

Kelly Allard

Q2. What is the name of your blog or organisation?

Engaged Family Gaming

Q3. Where are you located in the world?

Upstate NY USA

Q4. What currently is your favourite drink and why?

As it’s getting warmer out, I’m going back and forth between hot drinks and iced. I think Whistling Kettle’s Shaolin Grove is worthy of the honor, since it’s well prepared hot or iced, plus the floral notes are very seasonal!

Q5. Do you change your drinking habits during Spring?

I do! On the chillier days, I still stick with my hot beverages, but on the warmer proto-summer days I love iced drinks. I tend to shift from cream & sugar to fruit infusions for sweetening because I prefer the lighter notes. Also, I “drink my dinner” on very hot days with yogurt-matcha smoothies!

Q6. Is there a coffee or tea you think others should try?

I think this time of year goes well with a green or white tea, the lightness of flavor and the freshness of the color (as well as the compliments of early-season fruits and flowers) feels very spring. My recommendations would be Whistling Kettle’s Shaolin Grove or the aptly named Springtime Melody, Harney & Son’s Organic Green with Citrus & Ginkgo and Tea & Absinthe’s White Cherry!

Q7. If cost wasn’t a factor, where would you like to be right now enjoying a drink?

Since this time of year is so inspired by green teas for me, I think I would enjoy a hot cup of matcha sitting outside of a Tokyo game cafe. Maybe playing a relaxing and thought provoking game of Tsuro while enjoying the local flavor.

Q8. What do you think should be done to stop people from drinking too much alcohol?

Wow, that’s a hefty question! I don’t know that there is much that can be done from a societal standpoint that hasn’t already been implemented. In the US we have high minimum drinking ages, strict operation and intoxication laws, and I don’t think adding more would help.

I mean, we could modify the view of it, take away the hollywood glamour, but I don’t know how much it would do. Personally, I think it has to be an individual’s decision and be supported by those around them.

I love a glass of wine, or a nice tequila, but I know my limits. I know how to be responsible and I think that is what it comes down to, learning to be responsible and having those around you support it.

Q9. Where can people find out more about you?
